Between August 14th and 18th, the cost of canary melons in the Brazilian domestic market witnessed a notable upswing in the Rio Grande do Norte/Ceará region. The 5 to 8 variety concluded the period with an average selling price of R$ 40.94 per 13 kg box, reflecting an 8% increase.
Industry insiders consulted by Hortifruti/Cepea attribute this price surge to robust demand from the European continent. Consequently, a substantial portion of locally produced fruit, particularly the smaller variants, is being exported abroad. This international demand has subsequently led to a diminished supply in the domestic market. This trend is anticipated to persist over the upcoming weeks until a stabilization in supply is observed across the European market.
